Thank You

A great big thank you for the fantastic Teacher Appreciation Dinner last Saturday! The surprise entrance, delicious food, kind words, and beautiful gifts made it a very special time. Mrs. Smith and I appreciate your generosity very much and you will be in our hearts and prayers as we leave. It’s true that we have worked behind the scenes a lot, but we certainly didn’t work alone. The teachers are the ones that prepared lessons, conducted classes, and loved your kids 180 days during each school year. We appreciate the faculty team we have here ... and our parents ... and our students. You are all wonderful! You’ve made it a very special three years here at ICAN.

Spirit Days

First grade won the competition for "twin day". But nobody knows the over-all winner yet. That will be announced this Friday at the ICAN sports day. The winning class will get to keep the ICAN lion until Spirit Days – 2009.

Yearbooks

The 2008 yearbooks are being printed and put together right now. The class that wins the Spirit Days competition may buy or pick up their copies in the office this Friday afternoon. Everybody else can get theirs at their building next Monday (6/9). A list of people who have ordered or paid is on the bulletin board in the school office.

Report Cards

Kindergarten through fifth grade will receive their report cards on their last day of school. Because of semester exams, middle school report cards will not be available until after 12:00 noon on Thursday (6/12).They can either be picked up in the office, or you can request the school to mail them to you.

End of the Year

The end of the year is always very complicated because classes are doing so many different activities. Here is a summary by class:
Kindergarten: Last day of school is Tuesday (6/10). That day parents will drop students off at Nissin Church at 9:00 and pick them up at the church at 12:00. They will return for graduation that evening at 6:00 p.m.
Grades 1-5: Elementary students will have regular school days until June 12. ICAN 1.5 will have an awards time and then class activities in the morning. ICAN1 will have class activities during the morning and then awards at 11:30. School will be dismissed at 12:00 for both buildings on Thursday (6/12).
Grades 6-8: The final day for middle school students will be Wednesday (6/11). They will be taking semester exams on Tuesday (6/10) and Wednesday (6/11). They will be dismissed at 12:00 on both days. A recognition dinner for 8th grade graduates will be held at 6:00 p.m.

Sports Day

The last big "all school event" is the Spring Sports Day this Friday (6/6). It will be held at Chino Ike Park again this year. Students from ICAN1, ICAN 1.5, and ICAN 2 will walk to the park, and then we will eat lunch there around 12:00. Mr. Ricart has planned games and activities for every grade plus we will take our annual all-school picture. When the activities are over, parents may either choose to take their students home from the park (be sure to tell the teacher), or students may walk back to their school building with their teacher. In case of rain, the Sports Day will be cancelled and students will have activities back in their buildings. Here are three reminders about Spring Sports Day:

  • Parents are invited to join us for both the lunch and activities part of the afternoon.
  • Students should bring a towel since there are some water activities.
  • Bring a picnic lunch. There will be no bento lunches delivered to the park.
  • Students should wear red or yellow shirts and long pants to reduce scrapes and injuries.
