Rules To Know

Becoming a designer isn’t great until you are thoroughly experienced and updated about the latest things in the field. Typography is one of the most important and satisfying components of thegraphic design. Learning the facts like the origin and history of a particular font or the structure of a particular typeface, this can enrich the meaning that your design speaks!

Once you know the rules it’s always easier to break them. So, it’s essential to know the basics thoroughly, so that you can develop and expand your skillset without boundaries and horizons.

Here are a few of the most crucial things that you ought to know before starting up any project.

Basics should be Right:

The right step and baby step towards typography are to know the fundamentals of the art. If you are an amateur to this field, we encourage that you dive in deep and learn the basics strong and correct. Typography isn’t as easy as it may look, or you may think. It’s very complex, a combination of art and science.

The composition of typeface consists of a specific vocabulary, accurate measurements and central specifications that should always be taken into consideration. Just like in the design forms where you can break any rules, only once you know the rules exactly and that too when it’s to create something unique and of great significance. So, we hope you understand clearly the complexity of the subject and ensure that you lay a strong foundation.

Kerning-aspect to be mastered:

Kerning is a term used to produce a stream lined, unified pairing by fine-tuning the spaces between the characters in an organised manner. The main aim of this task is to produce evenly arranged text, which makes a world of difference. It may not sound too important, but it indeed is, which you will know only if you learn and see the change for yourself.

In Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, they fix the negligible errors. But, if the errors are big and visible, then it ruins the project completely.

Alignments need proper placements:

Alignments that are normally done, centre aligned and justified makes it hard to read for many readers. Typography needs emphasis on alignments and if it goes wrong, it becomes hard to find success in the work you do.

Those working with MS Word must be clear and easy to types of alignments that are basic; Center aligned, left aligned, right aligned, and Justified. Left alignment is the easiest one from the reader’s point of view since it’s easily noticeable to the eye. Right alignment is good when you need to do, and only when it’s done the absolute right way. Justified is truly a disaster for designers.

Have a check on Font:

Type face selection is a random process because there is a psychology linked to the selection of certain typefaces. Making a research through your font catalogue, the ones that you like the best will give the best results for your project.

Fonts do have some psychological effects in reality. The purpose and the content matters when choosing a font. For example, to represent anything pertaining to male, we use abold font with perfectly sharp edges, for women we use curvy thin font styles that represent girly stuff.

This has an effect at aconscious and subconscious level too, helping your instinct to make better choices. Your brain identifies this and If you hone those skills you can improve by bounds and leaps.

Be clear on the size:

Yes, in reality, as a designer you actually get just a few seconds to make sure your stuff hits the right chords. In the designing and digital world, everything either fails or clicks in amatter of seconds.

For example, when you put up an ad, you convey a message. The way you convey matters! Telling vaguely or hitting it hard! Fonts express your thoughts and minds and hence choosing the size that can hit hard, and be bold and capture the eyes are essential, especially whendesigning the heading. Don’t just write a Heading, design it and execute it. Once you get it right, half the work is done.

Rules can be Broken:

At the end, imagination and creativity are what stands out. These are the guidelines for your roughly follow, but you are free to play around and create your designs even by breaking rules unless it’s not hurting anyone in anyway.
